Hawkeyes Spotlight

The Hawkeyes are coming off an 85-51 victory over Portland State and remain undefeated in their first six games.  Offensively, Iowa is 1st in the nation in scoring, averaging a whopping 97.2 points per game.  The Hawkeyes are 3rd in free throw attempts with 19.83 per game and 5th in free throw percentage making 83.22%.  Defensively, the the Hawkeyes are allowing 65.5 points per game on average, ranking them 126th. Virginia does have the better defense but it's worth noting Iowa ranks higher in total rebounds and steals.

Cavaliers  Spotlight

Virginia is coming off another defensive clinic, shutting down Lehigh in a 61-43 victory.  Defensively, Virginia ranks 4th in the nation in scoring, allowing a measly 53.6 points per game.  The Cavaliers are 22nd in blocked shots with 5.7 per game and 65th in turnovers averaging 11.43 per game. It is worth noting that Iowa is 9th in the nation turning the ball over 9 times a game on average.  Virginia's offense is dismal as the Cavaliers rank 333rd in the nation in scoring, averaging only 61.4 points per game.  They are attempting 50.14 shots per game ranking 351st and only making 42.1% ranking them 259th.

Final Say

This is a classic offense vs defense matchup.  Iowa is a scoring machine and Virginia is a defensive wall.  Iowa has had an easier schedule this far but Virginia has lost twice.  Virginia will keep this game close with turnovers and great defense but eventually the defensive wall will break and Iowa will pull away.  Virginia's limited offense won't be able to keep up.  Iowa wins pulling away late in the game.
